Industrial Collaborations
 and Innovation

Transfer of knowledge and technology to the industrial sector is an integral part of the institute’s activities.

Globally, 7 research projects in collaboration within the industry were active in 2022. These include the AiCuris-ICIQ joint unit, created in 2020 as a unique model of collaboration in an open innovation environment.

Evolution of revenues from industrial collaborations

As for 2022 highlights related to ICIQ’s Technology Development Units, Crysforma worked in projects with 23 different national and international companies related to pharmaceutical and fine chemicals sectors. Crysforma also carried out promotional activities for public and private alliances.

During 2022 CSOL carried out four projects aimed at advancing the development and valorization of technologies originated from ICIQ’s research groups, with the objective of transferring these technologies to the industrial sector. The main areas were the creation of new catalysts and reagents and technologies related to polymerization. In addition to these research initiatives, CSOL is actively engaged in additional projects for technology valorization, securing diverse funding sources and fostering collaborations with companies in the sector.

Established in 2020, Aicuris developed research projects in Medicinal Chemistry aimed at finding new potential antiviral and antibiotics. Its main task is to synthesise, purify and design new molecules with biological activity. The joint unit was active until end of 2022.

ICIQ’s first spin-off company Orchestra Scientific, continued the development and construction of an economically affordable, modular and eco-friendly technology to separate CO2 from biogas and capture it from industrial emissions.

ICIQ’s second spin-off company, Treellum Technologies SL was created in 2020. Treellum Technologies is focused on the development and commercialization of photoreactors to ensure reproducible experiments.

The newest ICIQ spin-off. It was created during 2022 leaded by Prof. Julio Lloret-Fillol. The Joltech Solutions strategy focuses on the development of catalytic solutions for water electrolyzers. Jolt is at the forefront of driving the green hydrogen solutions.

Regarding ICIQ’s protection of results, 2 new patents were presented as priority titles. In fact, ICIQ had 67 patents active in 2022 and 1 patent family was transferred to the industry. ICIQ’s patent portfolio can be reviewed here.
